Special working group meets in Astana to discuss Caspian Sea legal regime

A delegation of Turkmenistan is attending the 24th meeting of the Special Working Group for drafting a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the level of deputy foreign ministers. The meeting started in the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana, on 23 December. Issues related to the elaboration of provisions of the Caspian Sea Legal Status Convention are top on the agenda.

Turkmenistan”s position with regard to the legal regulation of activities on the Caspian Sea is “guided by the need to settle all issues on the basis of universal norms and principles of international law,” the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan said in a statement for press.

Turkmenistan pays special attention to the development of international cooperation in the Caspian Sea and Caspian region, namely through expanding the relations with neighboring states in energy, transport, trade and other spheres, the Turkmen foreign ministry said.
