Price tags indicate new and old prices ahead of denomination in Turkmenistan

All retail outlets of the ministry of trade and foreign economic activity of Turkmenistan placed price tags indicating old and new prices on the eve of New Year.

This move aims at the soonest familiarization of people with new prices, which in fact remained at the same level, the Ashgabat correspondent of Turkmenistan.ru was told in the ministry. All retail outlets, markets and public catering establishments were instructed beforehand to recalculate their sales registers indicating prices in manat and tenge, the ministry said.

It is also reported that the launch of new banknotes will not entail any changes in the sphere of price formation.

It should be recalled that Turkmenistan will circulate new national banknotes and coins starting 1 January 2009. Thus, 5000 old manat will be equal to 1 new manat.
