Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan to confront hydroelectric power stations construction in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan

Experts link the urgent arrival of Kazakhstan”s Prime Minister to Tashkent with the telephone conversation the President of two states held on April 2, reported Regnum on April 4.

Experts believe that Islam Karimov and Nursultan Nazarbayev intend to appeal against decision of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to develop own hydroelectric power stations without coordination with stakeholders and compliance with required in this case conditions and international procedures. The Presidents intend to jointly protest against these plans during the upcoming Summit of Heads of States-Parties to the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in Almaty in late April.

On April 3, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov in Oksaroy residence.
