Hunting season opens in Turkmenistan

On 1 August, a hunting season opened in Turkmenistan. It will last until March 14 next year. Amateur hunting in compliance with all existing rules will be permitted for the entire season for such common species as doves, wolves and jackals. Hunting with some restrictions will be also permitted for green and gold bee-eaters, common turtledove, pin-tailed and black-bellied sand grouse, partridges, goose, ducks, coots, dabchicks, cormorants and sandpipers. A list of hunting areas is agreed for each species where hunting is allowed.

Hunting for a wild boar is allowed from 1 August to 22 November, while hunting for a hare and tolai hare – from 3 October to 17 January. Hunting with hunting birds, falcons, can be carried out from 3 October to 17 February.

Hunting for any species of animals and birds listed in the Red Book of Turkmenistan is totally prohibited. Hunting is also prohibited in the nature reserves and sanctuaries, places of recreation of people, as well as in the southern outskirts of Ashgabat. A special document issued by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan also determines a hunting quota for each hunter. On Mondays and Tuesdays, and on the Caspian Sea shores on Fridays, hunting for all kinds of animals will be banned.
