Uzbek government launches the process of privatization of the national air carrier

Uzbekistan’s Duniyo News says the state share of 51 percent and more in the authorized capital of the Joint Stock Company (JSC) Uzbekistan Airways must be put up for auction before September 1.

In this regard, the Agency for Management of State Assets has announced the involvement of a professional consulting company for development of a strategy for privatization of JSC Uzbekistan Airways.

Recall, media outlets reported back in November 2020 that Uzbekistan Airways is to be privatized, along with 620 state-owned companies and properties, as part of Uzbekistan’s transition to a market economy.

The national airline, as well as Uzbekistan airports and railways, were listed amongst 32 of the largest state-owned enterprises to be fully, or partially privatized in terms of a presidential decree issued on October 27, 2020.

JSC Uzbekistan Airways, operating as Uzbekistan Airways, is the flag carrier airline of Uzbekistan, headquartered in Tashkent.  From its hub at Tashkent International Airport named after Islam Karimov, the airline serves a number of domestic destinations; the company also flies international services to Asia, Europe and North America.
