DUSHNBE, June 1, Asia-Plus — The results of the republican sambo (unarmed combat) contest that was held in the northern district of Bobojonghafruov district on May 26-30 have been summed up.
According to information from the Sports and Physical Training Committee, such a contest for a prize of the “Longleaf” [phonetically pronounced] wrestling club was held in
Tajikistan
for the first time. Mirzosafar Shamsiddinov, a spokesman for the Sports and Physical Training Committee, has told Asia-Plus 14 teams from
Tajikistan
and one team from
Uzbekistan
totaling 122 athletes took part in the contest.
The competition was dedicated to the 15

anniversary of
Tajikistan
’s
Independence
, Year of Aryan Civilization, the 2700
th
anniversary of the establishment of the city of
Kulob
, as well as the 31
st
anniversary of the establishment of the club.
The contest winners were rewarded with prizes provided by the club. The wrestling club “Longleaf” was established by Tajik wrestler Usto Ustobirov in 1975.
