, January 12, Asia-Plus – A meeting of the director of
Tajikistan
’s Drug Control Agency (DCA), Rustam Nazarov, with senior representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the republic was held in the Agency’s building on Thursday January 12.
According to the DCA press service, the objective of the meeting was in briefing representatives of the diplomatic missions and international organizations on the fight against drug trafficking in Tajikistan and measures introduced by the country’s authorities against drug trafficking.
During the meeting, it was noted that some politicians and media claimed that after withdrawal of Russian border troops from the Tajik-Afghan border a difficult period had ensured and the southern borders of
Tajikistan
allegedly were not protected properly.
“The results of work carried out by our border troops and special services of Tajikistan last year have shown that such statements and allegations are absolutely unfounded,” said the Tajik drug control chief, “Despite certain problems, which are inevitable in the course of a transition, we made certain successes, and an amount of sized drugs is evidence of this.”
Besides, the DCA authorities informed diplomats of a drug situation in the region. Rustam Nazarov assured his guests that
Tajikistan
being the first-line against drug trafficking from
Afghanistan
would set up anti-drug efforts.
“We are ready for cooperation with all interested states n the basis of mutual confidence, openness and publicity,” the DCA chief said at the conclusion of the meeting.
