Student team from KhSU among the top 100 teams receiving customized mentorship from Google

A student team from Khorog State University (KhSU) — Muyassar Munosibshoyev, Masrur Qurbonmamadov, Khoushnoud Imomnazarov and Jahongir Niyozbekov — are among the top 100 teams receiving customized mentorship from Google under the google Solution Challenge 2023.

1,500 student teams from around the work have participated in this international contest and the innovative project of young developers from Tajikistan’s Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) – Electronic Medical Record – has been listed among the top 100 best project.  The next step is to break into the top 10 finalists.

By the way, out of 1,500 teams, only three teams from Central Asia entered the top hundred — two teams from Kazakhstan and one team from Tajikistan.

The leader of the Google Developer Student Club (GDSC) at KhSU says Askar Aityov, Developer Relations Coordinator for Google Developers & Google for Startups in Central Asia, has suggested that they set up such a club.

Google Developer Student Clubs are university based community groups for students interested in Google developer technologies.  By joining a GDSC, students grow their knowledge in a peer-to-peer learning environment and build solutions for local businesses and their community.

The guys started working on the Electronic Medical Card project, which is aimed at addressing the lack of an integrated and accessible health data platform in Tajikistan, especially in rural areas, in May 2022 as part of the Digital Future Cup contest organized by Megafon.

“We have developed a webs-service, which provides a user-friendly and secure digital platform, where all patient data is stored,” Muyassar told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Each year, the Google Developer Student Clubs Solution Challenge invites university students to develop solutions for real-world problems using one or more Google products or platforms.

Participants receive specialized prizes at different stages: the top 100 teams receive customized mentorship from Google and experts to take solutions to the next level, branded swag, and a certificate; the top 10 finalists receive additional mentorship, a swag box, and the opportunity to showcase their solutions to Google teams and developers all around the world during the virtual 2023 Solution Challenge Demo Day, live on YouTube; contest finalists  – in addition to the swag box, each individual from the seven teams not in the top three will receive a Cash Prize of $1,000 per student.  Winnings for each qualifying team will not exceed $4,000; and top 3 winners – in addition to the swag box, each individual from the top 3 winning teams will receive a Cash Prize of $3,000 and a feature on the Google Developers Blog.  Winnings for each qualifying team will not exceed $12,000.

Khorog State University is a public university located in GBAO’s capital, Khorog.  The University has an enrollment of approximately 4,000 students, both full-time (daytime) and students studying by correspondence.

Khorog State University was founded on August 5, 1992 by the decision of the Cabinet of the Ministers of Tajikistan, and the same year in September started its first academic year.

For the first time, the population of GBAO had access and the opportunity to enter a higher education institution, without leaving their own region.

The first Rector of the University was Academician Mamadsho Ilolov, serving from 1992 to 1995.  The present Rector, the University’s eighth, Amid Komilbek, assumed office in September 2022.

The first graduator of the university was His Highness the Aga Khan, who was awarded the LL.D. (honoris causa) in May 1995.

Being the only higher education institution and a place for academic work and research, KhSU attracted a lot of attention both from state and non-state actors. The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) played a key role in assisting the University in its early years with faculty, educational resources (financial and material), equipment, scholarship programs and partnerships with other universities in the region and around the world.
