DUSHANBE, January 26, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The state unitary enterprise, Zarya Vostoka, located in the northern city of Taboshar, began recycling waste solid propellants containing beryllium a the end of last year, according to the Ministry of Energy ad Industry (MoEI).

To-date, the enterprise has recycled more than 13.5 tons of waste solid propellants and recycling will continue this year as well, the source at a MEI said.

In the meantime, the Zarya Vostoka director Qayumjon Mahmoudov says recycling work is carried out in cooperation with Russia’s Federal Center for Dual-Use Technologies, Soyuz.  According to him, the recycling work is carried out under the agreement that was signed by Tajikistan and Russia in 2005.

“The agreement, in particular, notes that waste solid propellants had been amassed at the enterprise storages during the test treatment of formulation of high-energy mix solid propellants containing beryllium in the Soviet time,” Mahmoudov said.

According to him, they have to recycle nearly 200 tons of waste solid propellants within the next five years.  The recycling work is funded by the governments of Tajikistan and Russia, Mahmoudov added.
