Barqi Tojik cuts off incorrigible nonpayers from power supply network

DUSHANBE, February 1, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Barqi Tojik power holding (Tajik electricity supplier) has begun to cut off the most incorrigible nonpayers from the power supply networks, Nozir Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik, said.

“To-date, Barqi Tojik has cut off electricity supply to the Chiptura poultry factory, the Hissar cotton ginnery, distillery in Roudaki district and saltworks in Vose district,” the spokesman said, noting that electricity supply will be resumed only after they repay their electricity debts.

He noted that electricity rationing in settlements that have large electricity debts might be toughened within the next few days.

We will recall that rural areas now have electricity 12 hours per day following introduction of electricity rationing in the country last November.

According to Yodgori, Tajik power plants now generate nearly 52 million kWh of electric power per day, which is 7.5-8 million kWh more than in the same period last year.  “Barqi Tojik is currently considering the issue of increasing electricity supply to rural areas, but it will be possible only if they pay for electricity in proper time,” the spokesman said.
