DUSHANBE, April 9, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has seen slight currency devaluation in recent days.
In currency exchange offices in Dushanbe and Khujand, the rate of the Tajik national currency, the somoni, dropped against the dollar from 4.485:1 on April 1 to 4.5165:1 on April 9, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) reports.
Exchange rates of the Euro and Russian ruble (RR) have also increased over the report period – the Euro rate increased from 1:6.30 to 1:6.35 and the RR rate increased from 10:1.579 to 10:1.594.
According to Tajik central bank, the Euro and RR rates have increased due to their exchange rates against the dollar in international market, while the USD exchange rate has increased following intensification of foreign economic transaction with regard to excess of imports over exports as well as additional pressure from seasonal factors that are connected mainly with labor migration processes.
