DUSHANBE, April 23, 2011, Asia-Plus — French corporations building an international terminal at the airport in Dushanbe – Alpha Airport and SOFEMA Group — and open joint-stock company, Dushanbe International Airport, have not yet come to an agreement on additional financing (9.5 million euros) for construction of the international terminal at the Dushanbe airport, the Dushanbe International Airport director general Rustam Kholiqov remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 22.
The French corporations reportedly say additional €9.5 million are needed for the project as prices of equipment for the future terminal have risen.
“Because of this, an active phase of the construction of the new terminal is postponed,” said Kholiqov. “France’s Minister of Finance who is expected to arrive in Tajikistan at the end of this month will conduct negotiations with senior representatives of Tajik Ministry of Finance on this subject.”
The overall space of the international terminal at the Dushanbe airport will be 11,000 square meters and it will able to receive more than 5,000 passengers per hour.
We will recall that the project for construction of an international terminal at the Dushanbe airport is being implemented under financial support of France. France has provided Tajikistan a long-term, low interest 20 million euro loan to fund the 27 million euro construction of the new terminal at the Dushanbe airport. The terminal will bring the Dushanbe airport up to international air traffic standards.
