DUSHANBE, August 18, 2011, Asia-Plus – A group of scientists from the Institute of Agriculture of the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences has produced new sorts of cotton which have no analogues in the world.
According to the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences, main feature of these sorts entitled “20th anniversary of independence” (medium-fiber) and “Avesta” (fine-fiber sort) is that their flowers never open. Therefore, such external factors as wind, pests, hot weather can not affect the harvest formation. Additionally, new sorts were ideally adapted to Tajikistan’s climate, the source added.
This year 10 hundred square meters of land in Latifa Murodova farm in Hissar region were sown with new sorts of cotton.
According to one of the authors of the new sorts, director of the Institute of Agriculture of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Saidjamol Saidov, with the use of required growing technologies both sorts of “20th anniversary of independence” and “Avesta” will produce 45-47 centners of raw cotton from one hectare.
