Last year, Tajikistan’s external trade turnover amounted to 7.309.5 billion U.S. dollars 4.2 billion U.S. dollars, which is 14.5 percent or 905.4 million US dollars more than in 2021, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.
In 2022, the trade balance was negative and amounted to 3.025.5 billion U.S. dollars.
Over the reporting period, Tajikistan reportedly had trade relations with 109 countries of the world, including ten CIS nations.
Exports of goods in 2022 reportedly amounted to 2.142 billion U.S. dollars, which is 0.4 percent or 7.6 million U.S. dollars less than in 2021.
Over the reporting period, the country’s exports mainly included precious and semi-precious metals and gems, energy, cotton fiber, non-ferrous metals (aluminum) and products made from them, textile materials and products made from them, and so forth.
Compared to 2021, the export of mineral products increased by 44.4 percent and the export of non-ferrous metals and products made from them increased 20 percent.
Meanwhile, the export of precious and semi-precious metals and gems decreased by 40.9 percent compared to 2021.
In 2022, the major trading partners of Tajikistan’s exports were: Kazakhstan – 22.6 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s exports; Switzerland – 18.1 percent; China – 172 percent; Turkiye – 8.4 percent; Uzbekistan – 8.3 percent; Iran – 5.3 percent; Afghanistan – 4.9 percent; and others.
Imports of goods into the country last year amounted to 5.167.5 billion U.S. dollars, which is 22.8 percent or 958 million U.S. dollars more than in 2021.
The main items of Tajikistan’s imports over the reporting period were: mineral products, including energy and natural gas – 19.3 percent, machinery and equipment – 11.9; base metals and manufactures thereof – 9.8 percent; products of chemical industry – 9.6 percent, finished food products – 8.9 percent; plant products – 9.3 percent; and others.
Over the reporting period, the major trading partners of Tajikistan’s imports were: Russia – 30.7 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s imports; Kazakhstan – 8.5 percent; China – 16.3 percent; Uzbekistan – 7.3 percent; Turkiye – 3.3 percent; the United States – 2.9 percent; India and Iran – 2.4 percent each; and others.
Over the reporting period, major trading partners of Tajikistan were: Russia – 22.9 percent of the overall volume of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover; Kazakhstan – 19.7 percent; and China – 16.6 percent.
