NBT-produced bars go up on average by 20 percent

Prices for gold bars produced by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) have risen on average 20 percent since the beginning of the year.

According to data from Tajikistan’s financial regulator, the buying price for the 5-gram gold bar rose from 3,077.53 somonis on January 3, 2023 to 3,670.53 somonis on April 17, 2023.

The buying price for the 10-gram gold bar reportedly rose from 6,067.93 somonis on January 3, 2023 to 7,253.93 somonis on April 17, 2023.

The buying price for the 20-gram gold bar reportedly rose from 11.989.49 somonis on January 3, 2023 to 14,361.51 somonis on April 17, 2023.

The buying price for the 50-gram gold bar rose from 29,735.10 somonis on January 3, 2023 to 35,665.13 somonis on April 17, 2023.

The buying price of the 100-gram gold bar rose from 59,305.14 somonis on January 3, 2023, to 71,165.20 somonis on April 17, 2023.

Recall, the gold bars produced by the National Bank of Tajikistan were released into free circulation in June 2017.

A gold bar, also called gold bullion or a gold ingot, is a quantity of refined metallic gold of any shape that is made by a bar producer meeting standard conditions of manufacture, labeling, and record keeping. Larger gold bars that are produced by pouring the molten metal into molds are called ingots. Smaller bars may be manufactured by minting or stamping from appropriately rolled gold sheets.

Gold is measured in troy ounces, often simply referred to as ounces when the reference to gold is evident.  One troy ounce is equivalent to 31.1034768 grams.

The London Gold Fixing (or Gold Fix) is the setting of the price of gold that takes place via a dedicated conference line.

Besides, real costs of making gold bars are calculated.

The then-head of the NBT Jamshed Nourmahmadzoda told reporters in Dushanbe on February 5, 2020 that gold bars with a total weight of 100 kilograms are waiting for their customers in storage of Tajik central bank.

“By president’s order we have produced gold bars with a total weight of 100 kilograms and we are gradually selling them,” Nourmahmadzoda noted.

According to him, citizens of the country can buy the NBT-produced bars using their passports.  “No other documents are required,” Nourmahmadzoda said.

Each citizen of Tajikistan can buy gold bars totally weighing one kilogram per year.

Meanwhile, the World Gold Council notes that the price for one troy ounce of gold rose from US$1,843 on January, 2023 to US$2,019 on April 14, 2023 (9.5-percent increase).
