Emergency relief effort in southern Tajikistan continues

sent some 18 tons of wheat, more than a ton of vegetable oil, and more than 200 kilograms of iodized salt to the tremor-hit areas.  

According to information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the World Health Organization (WHO) has provided a three-month medical kits ration for 10,000 people through the Ministry of Health (MoH).   

Ms. Jamila Tilloyeva, a spokeswoman for the MES, told Asia-Plus that the UNICEF Country Office in Tajikistan had sent to Qumsangir five tons of clean water in ten-liter jerricans, 30,000 pillars for disinfecting water, soap bars and hygienic kits and medical supplies for the earthquake-affected people. 

“The UN Disaster Risk Management Program has provided office equipment to the Qumsangir administration and emergencies,” MS Tilloyeva said, noting that

’s National Red Crescent Society (NRCS) and the Counterpart International have also provided assistance to the quake-rocked areas.  

            We will recall that the country’s government has requested assistance from the UN and wider international community to rebuild settlements affected by the earthquake.
