Death toll among Tajiks killed in Moscow market blast rises to five

DUSHANBE, August 25, Asia-Plus — Another Tajik, 20-year-old resident of  the Vahdat district Zokirjon Shumkorov, died in Moscow Hospital # 36 Friday morning from wounds sustained during a bomb attack on the Cherkizov market on August 21, Muhammad Egamzod, press secretary of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, said.

According to him, another Tajik national, 21-year-old Gulzira Mirzoyorova, who was also injured in the explosion at the Cherkizov market, died from burns in intensive care.

As it had been reported earlier, three Tajiks — a 29-year-old resident of the Yovon district Sirojiddin Rahmonov, a 24-year-old resident of the Vahdat district Muhiddin Shoyev, and a three-year-old Afzalsho Shoyev from Dushanbe — were killed in the August 21 market blast in Moscow.

Another five Tajik nationals are in hospitals.  One of them, Sino Karimov, remains in a serious condition

According to Mr. Egamzod, bodies of Tajik nationals have already been transported to Tajikistan.

The alleged bombers have confessed they were motivated by racial hatred.  As with most markets in Moscow, many traders at the Cherkizov market are from the North Caucasus region and former Central Asian Soviet republics, as well as China and Vietnam.

Racist sentiments have spread among young Russians in recent years, resulting in a growing number of attacks on dark-skinned foreigners.  Human rights groups have expressed alarm as police and courts continue to treat such cases as hooliganism, rather than ethnically motivated crimes.
