Two Tajik nationals injured in attack in Moscow region Wednesday evening

DUSHANBE, March 1, Asia-Plus – Two Tajik nationals were injured in an attack Wednesday evening.

According to letter received from the Tajik-language monthly “Tojikoni Rossiya” (Tajiks of Russia), which has been published in Moscow since 2002, the incident took place in a suburban electric train Wednesday evening, at around 8:00 p.m. 

The letter, in particular, said a group of six people in masks attacked two Tajik nationals, a 22-year-old Maqsad Vohidov and a 24-year-old Qudratullo Abdulkhujayev, and 26-year-old Uzbek woman Umeda Yarashayeva who were going to work by that electric train.  Umeda managed to escape to another carriage and call to police.  In the meantime, assaulters severely beat Maqsad and Qudratullo, inflicting multiple stabs wounds. 

The victims were taken to the hospital in the city of Mytishchi.  Maqsad Vohidov is in serious condition, according to the letter.  

The letter noted that according to eyewitnesses, the assaulters were young men aged 20 to 25.  

The police have launched an investigation into the attack, which could be racially motivated.
