DUSHANBE, April 17, Asia-Plus – Torrential rain on April 16 caused a series of mudslides that affected two districts adjoining the Tajik capital – Vahdat and Rudaki.
According to the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES), the overnight heavy rains caused mudslides that affected the villages of Zafarobod, Hojiqataghan, Machiton and Pistamazor in Vahdat as well as damaged in some places the highway from Dushanbe to the district.
The source at a CES said that mudslides had also affected the village of Sangtuda in the Rudaki district. “In both districts, the mudslides damaged residential buildings and agricultural lands,” the source said, noting that they have not yet had exact information about an actual volume of damage caused by the mudslides to the districts.
At present the committee’s emergency services are working in the sites to closely monitor the situation and provide assistance to the disaster-hit population.
