Seven killed, 45 injured in traffic accidents in Tajikistan last week

DUSHANBE, May 21, Asia-Plus – Seven persons were killed and at least 45 others were injured in 35 traffic accidents that were registered in the country over the last week, according to Tajik traffic police directorate.  

Habibullo Munavvarov, a spokesman for the Tajik traffic police directorate, said that two persons were killed and three others were injured Saturday as a sedan Volga moving from Khujand to Dushanbe fell into precipice in the Varzob district.

The accident took place at around 02:00 in the Maykhura area of Varzob.  “The driver appeared to have fallen asleep and the car fell into precipice,” said Munavvarov, “Two passengers Subhoniddin Mahmoudov and Komil Ghaffurov, died, and driver and two other passengers received various injures and were taken to Republican Hospital # 3 in Dushanbe.”

According to the Tajik traffic police directorate, 523 traffic accidents have been reported in the country since the beginning of the year.  109 persons have been killed and 607 others have been injured in those accidents.
