KULOB, February 27, Asia-Plus — The central government supports the flood risk management system for one of the most flood-prone areas of the country, Kulob region in Khatlon.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the deputy Kulob mayor, Pirmad Zaripov, said that the government has allocated 3 million somonis for rehabilitation of some 7 kilometers of flood protection embankment along the Tebolya River.
According to him, this area is prone to frequent floods, and therefore, they had to move some 70 families to a new place of residence.
“The water supply system of the city, which receives water from the Tebolya water-intake facility, has been affected by mudslides, and people living on both banks of the Tebolya River account for 70 percent of the total number of the Kulob residents having contracted typhoid,” the deputy mayor stressed.
The Kulob state construction company Kulobdehotsokhtomon (rural construction) and local construction company Ramz will rehabilitate the flood protection embankment, Zaripov said.
