DUSHANBE/KULOB, May 28, Asia-Plus — A special operation by special units of police and security service on detaining Suhrob Lanagariyev, who is charged with being involved into large scale drug trafficking and robbery, ended in Kulob Tuesday evening, by around 7:00 p.m.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the first deputy head of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), Kasim Gaffarov, said, “Eight persons, including Suhron Langariyev, two his supporters and five Afghan nationals, were in the house.”
According to him, three of them surrendered while five others were arrested during the assault on the house.
He added that a large amount of weapons and ammunition as well as narcotic drug had been found in the house. “According to the Afghan nations, the house was mined,” Gaffarov said.
According to him, two passersby were killed during the firefight.
In the meantime, the Kulob prosecutor Nasrullo Mahmoudov told Asia-plus that of eight persons that had been in the house only two were Afghan nationals. According to him, six hostages, including five women and one child, were released.
The source at the Kulob central city hospital said that three persons had been killed and three others had been wounded during the firefight.
During the operation, Suhrob Langariyev’s house was destroyed completely.
The 29-year-old Suhrob Langariyev is the junior brother of one of former leaders of the pro-government Popular Front Langari Langariyev who was killed in the early 1990s.
As had been reported earlier, officers from the law enforcement agencies have launched an assault on a house of Suhrob Langariyev yesterday morning, at around 9:30 a.m. The operation, carried out by officers from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB), involved special units of police and security service and armored personnel carriers.
