Preliminary volume of damage caused to Sughd by heavy rainfalls amounts to 6.3 million somonis

KHUJAND, May 30, Asia-Plus  — According to the preliminary assessments, damage caused to the northern Sughd province by heavy rainfalls of May 23-27has been estimated at 6.3 million somonis, Asia-Plus has learned from Hoji Muzayanov, the head of the Sughd information analysis department.  

According to him, the worst hi areas were the settlement of Kansai, the city of Qairoqqum and Istaravshan, Spitamen, Isfara, Zafarobod and Bobojonghafurov districts.    

Six residential houses were destroyed completely and 39 others were damaged partially by rainfalls and mudflows caused them.  Heavy rainfalls have also destroyed agricultural crops on the area of 674 hectares, including more than 400 hectares under cotton, Muzayanov said.    

He further added that commission is continuing to assess the actual volume of damage and it cannot be ruled out that this amount will increase.
