DUSHANBE, March 20, 2014, Asia-Plus – According to eyewitnesses, officers from the Interior Ministry’s office in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) have severely beaten several residents of the Rushan district.
“On March 18, several police officers together with the GBAO police directorate chief Fayzullo Nozimov in three vehicles stopped a car of local residents not far from Vamar, the administrative center of the Rushan district. Four persons – Khudoyor Sardorov and the Temurov brothers – Alijon, Sherali and Alim – were in that car. The police officers said that the guys allegedly caused a hindrance to the traffic and began humbling and beating them. The police officers were armed with the Kalashnikov assault rifles and they fired at the guys’ car,” one of eyewitnesses told Asia-Plus told Asia-Plus in an interview.
After that, they threw Khudoyor Sardorov into the river, the source added. “Fortunately, the guy’s relatives who rushed to help them pulled Khudoyor out of the river and took him to the Rushan district hospital. From there, he was transferred to the GBAO regional hospital in Khorog,” said the source. “The doctor in charge of the case says Khudoyor Sardorov is in serious condition.”
Meanwhile, some 400 people gathered near the district administration office in Rushan on March 19 demanding punishment for the GBAO police directorate chief Fayzullo Nozimov and the police officers who accompanied him on March 18. After a meeting with representatives of the GBAO regional authorities, they decided to apply to the Rushan prosecutor’s office.
