Officers of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS)’s office in Khatlon province jointly with border guards have prevented an attempt by Afghan drug dealers to smuggle a large consignment of narcotic drug out of Afghanistan into Tajikistan.
The SCNS press center says the incident took place along the Tajik-Afghan border in Farkhor district, Khatlon province on February 21.
A drug trafficking gang consisting of five Afghan nationals and led by Ghiyas waladi Qurban reportedly attempted to smuggle a large consignment of narcotic drug into Tajikistan.
“The criminals did not obey the demands of the security officers and border guards and opened fire at them. Two drug traffickers were killed by return fire and three others managed to escape to the adjacent territory of Afghanistan,” the SCNS press center reports.
During the inspection of the incident scene, the bodies of two Afghan drug traffickers, a hunting gun with eight bullets, one hand grenade F-1 and dozens of packages of narcotic drug were found.
The killed Afghan drug traffickers were identified as Khalbazar waladi Nekmahmad and Musa waladi Muman and the packages of narcotic drug tested positive to hashish weighing 70 kilograms.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
