Tajik Supreme Court upholds verdict of “not guilty” passed on 16 servicemen of MoD

DUSHANBE

, April 13, Asia-Plus – Tajik Supreme Court’s Board has ruled to uphold a decision to pass a verdict of “not guilty” on 16 officers of the Ministry of Defense (MoD).

According to Sayfullo Giyoyev, Chairman of the Supreme Court’s Military Board, the Supreme Court Monday [April 10] considered objection lodged by Tajik Military Prosecutor’s office and ruled to uphold the decision passing verdict of “not guilty” on 16 officers of the MoD, overturning the objection.

We will  recall that 16 officers of the Sughd garrison have faced charges ranging from abuse of power to embezzlement.

A prosecutor in the trial of the officers asked the Supreme Court on September 21 2005 to sentence the officers to prison terms from 10 to 15 years, but the Supreme Court passed the verdict of “not guilty” on them.

Since the beginning of the year, the Military Board of Tajikistan’s Supreme Court has passed sentences on nine servicemen.
