Tajikistan
’s Supreme Court sentenced former member of illegal armed formation Ayubjon Bekov to 16 years in prison on May 2.
According to information from the Supreme Court, the sentence followed his convictions on charges of participating in the illegal armed group of Saidmukhtor Yorov in the late Nineties and killing two inhabitants of the Vahdat district – Mahmadi Narzulloyev and Abdukairm Qurbonov. Besides, Bekov also faced charges of illegal possession of weapons and hostage taking.
In 1998, Ayubjon Bekov fled the country lived in the
Russian Federation
till 2004. According to the source, Bekov was detained by Russian police at request of Tajik law enforcement authorities and extradited to
Tajikistan
in 2004.
