Corruption-prevention agency assumes some functions of financial oversight office and tax police

DUSHANBE, December 11, Asia-Plus – The newly established Agency for the Fight Against Corruption and Economic Crimes will assume some functions of the Financial Oversight Committee, Department for Combating Corruption of the Prosecutor-General’s Office and former Tax Police Department of the abolished Ministry of State Revenues and Tax Collection, according to presidential press service.

A source at presidential press service said that it is not clear yet who will be appointed to head this agency.

As it had been reported earlier, President Rahmonov issued a series of decrees on November 30 restructuring a number of ministries and committees.  Some ministries either were turned into committees or abolished and their duties were redistributed.  Rahmonov also ordered the creation of a number of new administrations, including the Agency for the Fight Against Corruption and Economic Crimes, which is placed under his direct supervision.
