Head of Rudaki poultry farm faces office abuse charge

DUSHANBE, January 14, Asia-Plus  — Tajik General-Prosecutor’s Office has completed investigation into criminal case instituted against Hasan Azimov, director of the poultry farm in the Rudaki district, some 2 kilometers southwest of Dushanbe, and the trial of his case will begin soon, Tajik Prosecutor-General Bobojon Bobokhonov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on January 14.

Hasan Azimov faces charge of abusing office.  According to Tajik chief prosecutor, he illegally allotted 73 hectares of lands for housing.  For this he received totaling more than 500,000 somonis in bribes.

The chief prosecutor noted that over the past seven years, Azimov has passed some 400 illegal rulings on allotting 73 hectares of lands for housing.

On June 20 2007, the Tajik prosecutor-general’s office issued a ruling obligating to pull down some 5000 residential buildings illegally constructed in the area near the Rudaki poultry farm and their owners received compensations, the chief prosecutor said.

We will recall that some 20 women from the Rudaki district on September 20, 2007 gathered near the building of Presidential Palace in the center of the Tajik capital government’s building.  They tried to draw Tajik government”s attention to the Rudaki authorities’ decision to pull down their residential buildings.  Those gathered expressed disagreement with decision of the district authorities to pull down residential buildings that have been constructed in the area near the Rudaki poultry since 2000.

According to the prosecutor-general’s office, 12,115 crimes were registered in Tajikistan last year, which is 7.9 percent more than in 2006.

In 2007, prosecutors conducted more than 6,000 inspections across the country.  As a result of the inspections 18,213 people were reprimanded and criminal proceedings were instituted against 1,239 people.
