Former assessor in the Supreme Court, charged with killing and pedophilia, gets life jail term

DUSHANBE, January 16, Asia-Plus  — Former assessor in the Supreme Court, Bekmurod Kholiqov,  has got a life jail term for killings, illegal possession of weapons and pedophilia.

The Supreme Court sentenced Bekmurod Kholiqov to life imprisonment in November 2007.  The sentence followed his conviction on charges of killings, raping minor girls, polygamy, illegal possession of weapons, etc.

Qurbonali Huseinov, prosecutor of the Rudaki district, told Asia-Plus that the 50-year-old Bekmurod Kholiqov, who is resident of the village of Zarteppa in Rudaki, committed his first killing in 1979.  That time, he got a term of 15 years in jail, but in early 90’s using the instable situation in the country he escaped.

The investigation has established  that Kholiqov committed a series of grave crimes in the territories of the Rudaki district and Dushanbe from 1993 to 2001, the prosecutor said. “Thus, in 1994, he killed his brother with his wife and child,” Huseinov said, noting that Kholiqov is charged with having killed totaling nine persons.

In 2000, by decision of the upper house (Majlisi Milli) of the parliament (Majlisi Oli) Kholiqov was elected as assessor in the Supreme Court for five years.
