DUSHANBE, May 19, Asia-Plus — Crime rate is increasing in Tajikistan. According figures of the State Committee for Statistics based on data from the Ministry of Interior, 4,294 crimes have been reported in the country over the first four months of this year, which 0.8 percent more than in the same period of last year.
Crimes registered in the country over the report period included 938 grave crimes, which is 6.2 percent more than in January-April 2007.
Over the report period, the number of deliberated murders has increased by 40.6 percent, fraud – by 43.5 percent, and robbery – by 23.8 percent.
In the regional cross section in January-April 2008 the percentage the increase in the number of crimes reached were: Khatlon province – 19.8 percent; Gorno Badakhshan – 4.9 percent; Sughd province – 4.0 percent and districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) – 4.2 percent. In Dushanbe, the number of registered crimes has decreased over the report period by 3 percent.
The crime detection rate for the same four-month period stood at 78.6 percent, which is 4.6 percent higher than in January-April 2007.
