KULOB, July 19, 2008, Asia-Plus — Sharif Murodov, the head of the English subdepartment at Kulob State University, was detained by officers from the Kulob anticorruption directorate on July 18 on suspicion of having been involved in bribery.
According to the deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge for Kulob region, Alfatoh Roziqov, Murodov was detained under the prosecutor s approbation. “Murodov was caught red-handed when he was taking bribe in an amount of $800 from university entrant,” the deputy prosecutor said.
He further added that another $2,500 had been confiscated from Sharif Murodov during the operation.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Murodov under the provisions of Article 310, Part 4 of Tajikistan’s Pena Code – bribery. Investigation is carried out by the Kulob anticorruption directorate.
