Young woman brutally killed in Khujand

DUSHANBE, July 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — A young woman has been brutally killed in Khujand, Sughd province.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the killing was committed yesterday, at around 10:00 p.m.  “A 28-year-old K.M. was returning home through the territory of School # 30 when three young men began to follow her,” the source at a MoI, “They severely beat and violated her and after that burned the women who was in half-conscious state.”  

Due to efficient actions of police officers, three persons were detained on suspicion of having committed this crime in several hours after that.  “They are residents of Khujand and have previous convictions,” said the source, “The detainees have confessed to the crime.”

According to him, criminal proceedings have been instituted against them on the provisions of Article 104, Part 2, Point “E” of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – murder committed with special cruelty.
