Russia recognizes Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan as terrorist

The Supreme Court of Russia recognized the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) as a terrorist and banned its activities in the country. “Izvestia” reports.

The meeting was held behind closed doors.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia filed a lawsuit with a demand to recognize the IRPT as terrorist.

This was announced at the end of July during a visit to Tajikistan and a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon, Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov.

Then Krasnov said that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office had considered the request of the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan to recognize some organizations as terrorist.

«We have already sent to the court a corresponding lawsuit against the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan», – said the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation at a meeting with Emomali Rahmon.

In Tajikistan, the party was declared banned back in 2015. It is also included in the register of terrorist organizations of the regional anti-terrorist structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the CSTO.

According to the court decision, the country first banned the publication of the party newspaper “Najot”, the distribution of videos, audio products, literature and leaflets of the party, the party website was blocked. According to the court decision, the import of any materials related to the activities of the IRPT is also prohibited in the country.
