Tajikistan plans to open its second consulate general in Russia

DUSHANBE, January 28, 2011, Asia-Plus —

Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi told reporters yesterday that

Tajikistan plans to open its second consulate general in the Russian

Federation.

According to him, the second Consulate General will be opened in Ufa,

the capital of Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic. “We are currently

conducting negotiations with the Russian side on this subject,” Zarifi

said.

In Russia, Tajikistan now has the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg,

the administrative center of Russia’s Sverdlovsk Oblast. The

Consulate General in Yekaterinburg was established on June 15, 2009.

The minister noted that Tajikistan also plans to open a Consulate in

Istanbul, Turkey this year. “Besides, it is planned to open two

embassies this year if budget permits,” he added.

Tajikistan now has 22 embassies, three consulates in the Afghan

cities of Kunduz, Mazar-i Sharif and Fayzabad, two consulates general

(in Yekaterinburg, Russia and Dubai, United Arab Emirates), and two

representative offices to international organizations.
