DUSHANBE, February 27, 2011, Asia-Plus — State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey were discussed here on February 25 during a meeting of Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov with Turkish Ambassador to Tajikistan Mehmet Munis Dirik, the source at the government said.
Issues related to cooperation between the two nations in the fields of economy and trade, energy, agriculture, culture, tourism and sports were a major topic of the meeting.
Expressing satisfaction with expansion of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, Tajik prime minister noted that Tajikistan was interested in launching joint ventures with Turkey for producing technical equipment and processing farm produce as well as establishing centers on training of personnel for Tajik tourism and relevant industries.
The two also discussed issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkey in providing regional security, combating international terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking, the source said.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Turkey in 2010 valued at 435 million U.S. dollars.
