Iranian president invites Rahmon to attend Navrouz celebrations in Iran

DUSHANBE, March 14, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali Asghar Sherdoust has officially handed over an invitation from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahamdinejad for President Emomali Rahmon to attend Navrouz celebrations in Iran, according to the Tajik presidential press service.

President Emomali Rahmon received Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali Asghar Sherdoust Friday evening.

In the course of the talks, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.  They, in particular, touched upon issues related to the process of implementation of agreements signed between the countries.

Ambassador Sherdoust noted that Iran planned to build a cement plant with capacity of 2 million tons of cement per year in Tajikistan.  A total cost of the project is 500 million U.S. dollars.  He added that the Iranian sides also intended to open Technological University and University of Tourism as well as two hospitals in Tajikistan.
