DUSHANBE, March 15, 2011, Asia-Plus — Health care, social security, enhancement of agrarian sector, development of private business and security strengthening measures will remain priorities of cooperation between the European Union (EU) and Tajikistan in the future as well, Mr. Pierre Morel, the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, told reporters in Dushanbe on March 15 following a meeting with President Emomali Rahmon.
According to him, they also discussed issue related to providing regional security as well as the current situation in Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan.
“The Europe Union appreciates Tajikistan’s support for establishment of peace and accord in Afghanistan,” the EU special envoy noted.
He added that visiting EU delegation would also attend a national dialogue on water organized by the Government of Tajikistan to discuss rational use of water resources in the region that would take place here on March 16.
We will recall that Mr. Pierre Morel and Mr. Gunnar Wiegand, Head of Unit for Relations with Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for External Relations, arrived in Dushanbe Tuesday morning.
The EU delegation is participating at a two-day conference of the Central Asia Border Security Initiative (CABSI) that opened in Dushanbe today.
