DUSHANBE, June 18, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received the “Geopolitics of Water” Mission of the National Assembly of France, led by Mr. Lionnel Luca, on June 17.
According to the presidential press service, the sides discussed a number of issues related to regional and international water problems as well as rational use of water and energy resources in the Central Asian region.
“Tajikistan will never implement project that would harm its neighbors and we are always ready for dialogue and cooperation to seek solution to the water-and-energy problems,” President Rahmon noted.
The sides expressed confidence that Central Asia’s water problems would be resolved through cooperation and mutual understanding among neighbors, the presidential press service said.
The French National Assembly is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of France under the Fifth Republic. The other is the Senate (“Sénat”).
The National Assembly consists of 577 members known as deputies, each elected by a single-member constituency through a two-round system. 289 seats are required for a majority. It is presided over by a president, normally from the largest party represented, assisted by vice-presidents from across the represented political spectrum. The term of the National Assembly is five years.
