DUSHANBE, July 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — On Thursday July 28, President Emomali Rahmon received visiting Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rasoul.
According to the presidential website, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in various fields.
Implementation of regional infrastructure development projects such as construction of highways and rail links connecting the two countries as well as construction of bridges and power transmission lines was in the focus of the talks.
The two also expressed interest in expansion of cooperation between power-wielding structures of Tajikistan and Afghanistan in combating terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking.
Rahmon and Rasoul also discussed preparations for a summit of heads of state of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia that will take place in Dushanbe in September this year.
