DUSHANBE, September 23, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi has held a number of bilateral meetings in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The MFA information department reports Zarifi yesterday met there with Mr. Robert Blake, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia and Central Asia.

In the course of the talks, the two reportedly discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States, interaction between the two countries within international organizations, as well as the current situation in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

On the same day, Tajik minister met with his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah.  They considered issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Sultanate of Oman.

Yesterday, Hamrokhon Zarifi also attended a meeting to discuss reviving the ancient “Silk Road” across Central Asia.  About 25 countries participated in the meeting that was held in New York on initiative of the foreign ministries of Germany, Afghanistan and the United States, the source said.
