DUSHANBE, February 14, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Monday February 13, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon congratulated Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on his reelection to another five-year term, the Tajik presidential press service reports.
In his message, Rahmon, in particular, noted, “Your reelection to this highest post is evidence of a wide support of the people of Turkmenistan for your policy aimed at promoting further development of the country and improvement of wellbeing of the people.”
Tajik leader also noted that friendly relations and many-sided cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan serve the national interests of the two countries and are important factor of peace and stability in the region.
The President of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, was re-elected for another term with a landslide majority on February 12. Election officials said he had secured more than 97% of the vote. Mr. Berdymukhamedov, the former health minister, was elected with 89% of the vote in 2007 following the sudden death of his predecessor Saparmurat Niyazov.
