IRP develops plan of activity in the Kulob region in 2012

KULOB, February 25, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The organization of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) for Khatlon’s Kulob region has held a conference in the city of Kulob to review the results of the past year’s work.

Mahmadsharif Nabiyev, the head of the IRP organization for the Kulob region, says changes have been made to the tactics and strategy of activity of the party in the south of the country.

“The IRP organization for the Kulob region now has 3,250 members; 415 of them joined the party in 2011,” Nabiyev said, noting that women constitute more than 40 percent of the party members in the area.

IRP reportedly has its primary organization in all districts of the Kulob region, except the Baljuvon district.

Nabiyev considers that the main problem facing politic parties in the country is imperfection of the country’s election legislation “that does not allow IRP to take deserved place in the legislative branch of power.”

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

Najot

(Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
