DUSHANBE, March 9, 2012, Asia-Plus – The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov Friday morning met here with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi.
Iran’s news agency, IRNA, reports that Zuhurov noted that despite various plots hatched against the Islamic Republic of Iran, the country has attained a remarkable status in the region and the world.
According to IRNA, he said that the Tajik Parliament, government and nation are opposed to any kind of sanctions against Iran, strongly condemn sanctions and believe that Iran’s nuclear issue should be resolved through diplomatic means and dialogue.
Zuhurov reportedly also expressed satisfaction with the exchange of parliamentary delegations between the two countries and congratulated the Iranian foreign minister on successful holding of parliamentary elections in the country.
Describing the two sides’ cultural cooperation as “very brilliant,” he said expansion of economic cooperation would help deepen friendship and affinity between the two nations.
Some 150 memoranda of understanding on joint venture projects between the two sides have been signed in the fields of transportation, construction, laying pipelines, transfer of water and electricity, Tajik parliament speaker said.
Salehi, for his part, said that Iranian officials are determined to broaden relations and cooperation with Tajikistan in all fields, IRNA said.
