On Saturday April 8, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Mr. Ivica Dacic, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
In the course of the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Serbia.
Emomali Rahmon reportedly stressed that Tajikistan is in favor of further expanding bilateral cooperation with Serbia in all mutually beneficial areas and strengthening the legal framework for relations between the two countries.
Rahmon and Dacic paid attention to the issues of strengthening inter-parliamentary ties, expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, as well as tourism and agriculture technologies.
They also discussed the establishment of bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian spheres, including in the field of education and science.
The parties also exchanged views on a number of international and regional issues being of mutual interest.
On the same day, Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister – Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met with Tajik Minister of Foreign Affairs Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
The Tajik MFA information department says the parties discussed political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between Tajikistan and Serbia and expressed their interest in further expansion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Muhriddin and Dacic reportedly underlined the importance of using possibilities of bilateral mechanisms, in particular the Tajik-Serbian Intergovernmental Committee on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation for expanding and strengthening multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
The parties also focused on issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and Serbia within the framework of international and regional organizations, as well as supporting the global initiatives of Tajikistan, according to the Tajik MFA information department.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia says relations between Serbia and Tajikistan are good and friendly, without open issues.
Economic cooperation between Serbia and Tajikistan is reportedly modest and based on trade in goods. According to Serbia MFA, a two-way trade between Serbia and Tajikistan in 2021 valued at around 17.585 million US dollars. This reportedly consisted of Serbia’s exports to Tajikistan estimated at 1.335 million US dollars and Serbia’s imports from Tajikistan worth around 16.250 million US dollars. Serbia’s exports reportedly decreased by 38%, while imports increased by about 278%.
Meanwhile, the Agency for Statistics under President of Tajikistan notes that the bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Serbia last year valued at 961,300 US dollars and it consists only of Tajikistan’s imports from Serbia.
