, July 31, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmonov presided over an enlarged meeting of the government Friday afternoon.
According to information from presidential press service, more than 30 issues have been tabled to the meeting’s agenda. The meeting, in particular, summed up
Tajikistan
’s economic results for January-June 2006 and considered tasks set for the second half-year of 2006.
According to information from presidential press service, President Rahmonov ordered at the meeting that
Tajikistan
’s Committee for TV and Radio-broadcasting should organize broadcasting Tajik national TV programs to
Afghanistan
through satellite aerial. During the meeting it was noted that the Tajik government was taking that step following request of the leadership and wish of the population of the neighboring country.
The meeting also considered the issue of creation of the first children’s TV – “Bahoriston” – in
Tajikistan
. The children’s TV is supposed to be launched ahead of the 15
th
anniversary of
Tajikistan
’s
Independence
, which is marked on September 9.
The government session also passed a resolution on taxation of royalties. Under this resolution, the royalties’ rate will increase 3-5 times depending on genre.
The government also made a decision on setting up a working group for the implementation of Tajik-Russian agreement on labor migration and protection of rights of Tajik citizens in
Russia
and Russian citizens in
Tajikistan
.
The government also endorsed a number of bills that were submitted for consideration to the country’s parliament.
President Rahmonov ordered heads of relevant structures to take adequate measures to ensure the regular work of the country”s economy during autumn-winter 2006-2007, the beginning of the construction of tunnels Shahriston, Shar-Shar, and Chormaghzak, as well as speeding up the construction of the Sangtuda-1 and Sangtuda-2 power plants, five-star hotels and textiles enterprises in the country.
