DUSHANBE, October 30, Asia-Plus — On Saturday October 28, President Emomali Rahmonov received Pakistani Minister of Energy and Water Resource Liaqat Ali Jatoi.
In the course of the talks the two discussed a broad range of issues related to energy cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan, presidential press service reported. The meeting focused on the construction of hydropower facilities, exporting Tajik electric power to Pakistan, creation of regional energy market and other relevant issues.
“Pakistani minister expressed gratitude to Tajikistan’s leadership for its efforts to attract attention of international community to seeking solution to the energy problems in Central and South Asia,” a source at the presidential press service said.
According to the source, during the meeting the parties reached an agreement on export of Tajik electricity to Pakistan. At the first stagy, Pakistan will annually export 1,000 megawatt/hour of electricity and then 4,000 megawatt/hour.
The sides also discussed issues related to trade and economic relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan, launch of a regular flight between Dushanbe and Islamabad, as well as opening of trade representative offices and branches of banks in the territory of the two countries.
