Tajik parliament ratifies Stockholm Convention (POPs), passes state material reserve law

DUSHANBE, December 6, Asia-Plus – Tajik parliament has ratified Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).

A regular sitting of the third session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the third convocation, presided over by its chairman, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on December 6.  

Asomuddin Saidov, head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on International Affairs, telling the session pointed to the significance of the convention for Tajikistan.  Ratifying the convention, Tajikistan has to take drastic measures to improve the environmental protection, according to him.

The lower house of the Tajik parliament also passed the RT Law “On the State Material Reserve.”  MP Mirzobek Hojiyev presenting the law noted that accumulation, regulation and use of the material reserves are connected with responding to possible emergencies and providing humanitarian aid in the event of the necessity.  “The state reserves including stocks of grain, food products and other supplies, may also influence market prices,” Hojiyev said.   

The parliament also ratified an agreement on creation of favorable legal, economic and organizational conditions for expanding leasing activity within the CIS area and endorsed amendments to the country’s Tax Code.
