JBIC weighs investment in Dushanbe’s economy

DUSHANBE, December 18, Asia-Plus – Dushanbe mayor’s office seeks Japan’s investment in the city’s economy.

On Friday December 15, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev met with visiting mission of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) led by Shokhei (phonetically spelled) Hara, director of Division II, Development Assistance Strategy Department of the JBIC. 

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that the meeting had focused on bilateral cooperation between the Tajik capital city and the JBIC and the Dushanbe administration had offered the bank to consider a number of investment projects aimed at development of Dushanbe’s economy.  Japan’s bank was proposed to invest in enhancement of the Dushanbe water supply system, reconstruction of roads, as well as participate in projecting a new edition of the general plan of the Tajik capital city.  

According to the spokesman, the JBIC official noted that their bank is ready to consider the possibility of investing in Tajik economy and will consider a number of investment projects in the near future.      

JBIC is a Japanese governmental financial institution that aims at stable and autonomous development of the economies and societies of countries in the world, and closer and stronger economic ties between Japan and the rest of the world.  Established on October 1, 1999 as a result of a merger between The Export-Import Bank of Japan (JEXIM) and The Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund, Japan (OECF), and taking over their operations as its core operations, JBIC undertakes International Financial Operations and Overseas Economic Cooperation Operations (ODA Operations) that are strictly separated in terms of financial sources and accounts.
