DUSHANBE, January 5, Asia-Plus – Outgoing Indian Ambassador to Tajikistan Bondal Jaishankar yesterday met with Speaker of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev at the end of his tenure to Tajikistan.
Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the speaker for public relations, said that Ubaidulloyev had highly appraised a role of Indian diplomat in development of Tajik-Indian relationship. Tajikistan attaches significant importance to India in its foreign relations, Ubaidulloyev said.
Referring to cultural and economic cooperation between the two countries, the speaker noted that a joint fruit-processing venture had been launched in Dushanbe, Indian buses had been delivered to the Tajik capital and a public garden with bust of the internationally known public figure Mahatma Gandhi had been opened here with an active participation of Mr. Jaishankar.
